It’s very easy to break a bracket on your braces, and it’s very important that you do everything you can to help the situation and fix the appliance. Now the only way you can fix the appliance is by visiting your orthodontist, so it’s best if you make an appointment as soon as possible. Until then, we recommend doing the following things:
No. 1: Check to see if the bracket is still attached to the wire. If it is still is attached, it’s best to try to keep it from sliding back and forth on the wire. You can stabilize the bracket by putting orthodontic wax around it. If the bracket is no longer attached to the wire, take the bracket out of your mouth and bring it into the office with you during your next appointment.
No. 2: Fix any loose wires. Sometimes the wires can become loose or they can fall out of place, which can make it very uncomfortable. If the wire is poking you, you can cut it with fingernail clippers. Make sure you cut as close to the base as possible. You can also try pushing the wire back into place with a Q-Tip or pencil eraser.
No. 3: Book an appointment as soon as possible. The sooner you get your bracket fixed, the sooner you will have your perfect smile.
